I’m lucky enough to have a garden and it feels like my own little haven: a place to relax and enjoy moments with family and friends!

So, when it comes to finding a gardener to maintain this green space, I definitely don’t want to leave it to chance. If I’ve already started looking for a gardener, I know the dilemma:

Who should I ask to take care of my garden? And how can I ensure they will do a good job?

With so many options and quotes piling up, it’s sometimes hard to know where to turn.

In this article, I’ll offer 3 solutions for finding my personal gardener based on my needs. I’ll also show how to find a cheap gardener on Yoojo in just a few clicks, thanks to our free local classifieds system!

Choose your gardener based on your needs

I don’t want to stress over requesting 50 quotes just to have my lawn mowed. No worries, the first step to making things easier is to clearly define my needs!

From there, it will be much simpler to find the right gardener for me.

• Do I just need a little help?

• Do I want to completely redesign my garden?

• Do I need assistance with small gardening tasks?

1/ For a little help: ask around

If I just need a small task done, like trimming a small branch or lifting a heavy pot, there's no need to call in a gardener with 20 years of experience.

I should let friends and family know and I’m sure one of them will be able to help. If, by some magic, everyone is “busy” that day, I can remind them of the times I’ve helped them in the past… that might motivate them.

However, I need to judge my request carefully because gardening is a real profession that not everyone can do. It would be a shame if my mate Michael killed my beautiful lemon tree because he doesn’t know how to use a wheelbarrow!

If the task requires specific skills, it’s better to let a gardening professional handle it.

2/ To completely redesign my garden: choose a landscape gardener

Don’t like the layout of my garden? Want to completely redesign it to create the haven I deserve? I should call in a landscape gardener. Their job is to design a garden based on my wishes, so they’re perfect for this job.

How can I find my landscape gardener?

I have a few options: the first is to dig out the old phone book and start contacting landscape gardeners in my area. I should explain my project and ask for a quote. If I’m interested, I can arrange a meeting so the landscape gardener can better estimate the costs of my project.

This option is interesting but requires a lot of investment and time to find the right landscape gardener.

Option number 2 is to browse online. Most professional landscape gardeners have a website with photos of their previous projects and reviews from past clients.

Also, I shouldn’t hesitate to check review sites before diving in. This will help me sort through landscape gardeners who aren’t right for me.

To find a landscape gardener near me, I just need to type “landscape gardener + NAME OF MY TOWN” into my favorite search engine.

Once again, be aware that landscape gardeners charge quite high rates, and that’s normal since they have solid skills. If I just need to get some small tasks done like lawn mowing, it’s better to opt for a gardener rather than a landscape gardener.

3/ For small gardening tasks: choose a home gardener

Lawn mowing, patio cleaning , turning the soil, or hedge trimming are tasks that are perfect for a home gardener! This is especially true for long, difficult tasks or ones where I don’t have the necessary equipment.

How do I find a home gardener?

1/ First option, I can post an ad in local shops. This is a good solution if I’m looking for a gardener for regular services. This way, I can meet them, discuss the terms, and easily formalize our working relationship with Yoojo Direct. However, I never know when someone will respond.
