Ranging from a few pounds to several hundred pounds per square meter, wallpaper can be expensive. And once you add the installation cost, your bill can quickly skyrocket!
But by how much exactly?
It can be hard to know when you're not a DIY expert, but when you’re Yoojo, and our wallpapering service has already helped over 200 brits freshen up their walls, we can tell you that we know wallpaper installation prices very well!
In this guide, I’ll explain the average price for such a service and show you real-life examples of what our customers have paid for their wallpaper installation.
Unlike many other small jobs, wallpapering services are usually charged per square meter rather than by the hour.
It makes sense: this kind of pricing is much more accurate and easier to estimate!
We’ve done the research, and here is the average cost per square meter for wallpaper installation:

For traditional companies:
We gathered quotes from five different contractors in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh. We also added data from similar jobs done by freelancers on Yoojo.
*The prices are for labour only (the cost of the wallpaper itself isn’t included). You might face additional costs if:
You need to remove the old wallpaper (don’t worry, Yoojo offers this service)
The condition of your wall isn’t suitable for wallpapering. For example, if your wall needs repair or smoothing (we provide priced examples below).
You’ve probably noticed that the rates for handymen on Yoojo are much cheaper than those of traditional contractors or agencies... That’s because on Yoojo:
Some types of wallpaper are harder to install than others, which explains the price differences you may encounter when requesting quotes.

These average prices are useful, but how does it look in real life? The examples below come from actual jobs posted on Yoojo, carried out by professionals from our platform.
In each case, you can see the client’s needs, how much they paid, and the price per square metre... perfect for getting an idea of how much you should pay!
💰 Price: £80
📏 Price/m²: £8.8/m²
⏳ Duration: 4 hours
Let's start with the simplest example: installing wallpaper on a 9m² wall. This is the standard size of a bedroom wall.
Here, the client’s wall was ready for wallpapering, and the final cost came to £80, or £8.8 per m²—a real bargain!
💰 Price: £180
📏 Price/m²: £15/m²
⏳ Duration: 6 hours
This example involves a more complex job: installing glass fibre wallpaper and adding a coat of paint. Fortunately, you can also find a painter near you on Yoojo. Since the task was more demanding, the price was higher.
In the end, the client paid £180 for 12 square metres of work, which comes to £15 per m².
💰 Price: £34
📏 Price/m²: £8,5/m²
⏳ Duration: 1 hour 30
Panoramic wallpaper is trendy, especially for children's rooms, where we get a lot of requests.
In this case, the job was a small 4m² mural, and the client's husband helped during the installation, lowering the overall cost to £34, or £7 per square metre.
💰 Price: £90
📏 Price/m²: £9/m²
⏳ Duration: 4 hours
Similar to panoramic wallpaper, murals are also very popular. The main difference is that murals consist of several strips, meaning installation takes longer as each strip needs to be perfectly aligned with the next.
For this job, the client paid £90 to install a 10m² mural, resulting in a price of £9 per m².
💰 Price: £270
📏 Price/m²: £18/m²
⏳ Duration: 10 hours
Here’s an example of a more demanding job often requested: removing old wallpaper, preparing the wall, and then applying new wallpaper.
Interestingly, the client originally booked the service for only 6 hours, but the installer needed 10 hours to complete the job. No problem though, with Yoojo, you can easily book extra hours through your customer account.
For the 15m² of wallpaper to be removed and replaced, the total cost was £270, or £18 per m².
💰 Price: £50
📏 Price/m²: £7/m²
⏳ Duration: 2 hours
At the other end of the scale, adhesive wallpaper is very popular for refreshing areas like kitchens.
The great advantage is that it’s very easy to install, making it one of the most affordable wallpaper types to apply.
In this example, the client in Manchester only paid £7 per square metre for the job!
Wallpaper installation requires plenty of space and freedom of movement. If you haven’t moved your furniture before your installer arrives, this delay could result in an extra charge for the service.
Keep that in mind!!!
With the information shared on this page, you should have a good idea of what you should expect to pay for your wallpaper installation.
