Moving 40 cubic meters can be expensive... really expensive!
But how much, you ask?
At Yoojo, I’ve had the pleasure of helping over 80 people move their 40 cubic meters... so trust me, I know a thing or two about prices!
In this guide, I’ll share with you the average moving rates for traditional movers and those on Yoojo.
You’ll discover pricing based on distance, the time of year, and even examples of ads posted on our website, giving you a broad range of information.
Let’s dive in!
As you can probably guess, the cost of your move will vary greatly depending on the options you choose and the distance to cover.
However, for those of you in a rush to get a clear estimate, I’ve calculated an average price based on several reliable sources:
Here are the results I found for you:
Average price in the UK:
Average price on Yoojo:
These statistics are useful to give you an initial idea, but it’s important to understand that the average cost is far from reality.
In fact, it’s the distance to travel that plays the most crucial role in determining the final cost of your move. It’s this variable that has the greatest impact on costs.
I’ll explain everything in detail just below!
Because on Yoojo, the movers set their own rates, so you get offers tailored to your region!
Because you have the flexibility to ask for help for just an hour, and only pay for that time!
Because with a network of hundreds of movers across the country, you can take advantage of the competition to get the best offers.
Because 80% of the jobs are done between individuals and cover short distances (less than 12 miles).
This is the most exciting part of the guide!
The key statistic to accurately estimate the cost of your move is the distance to travel.
And I’ve put everything in a handy table:
Distance | Average price for a standard move | Average price on Yoojo |
---|---|---|
Local move (less than 12 miles) | £510.0 | £240.0 |
Move around 31 miles | £872.1 | £307.2 |
Move around 62 miles | £1308.2 | £553.0 |
Move around 124 miles | £1962.2 | £713.3 |
Move around 311 miles | £3139.6 | £998.6 |
Move around 621 miles | £4301.2 | £1547.9 |
To ensure consistency between the two comparisons, I focused on the prices for economy moves. This type of service represents the majority of requests we receive on our platform.
You probably already know that moving prices vary by season: +15 to 20% in summer and up to -15% in winter.
So, I wanted to calculate how this plays out on Yoojo.
Here’s what I found:
Month | Price variation | Average price observed on Yoojo |
---|---|---|
January | -6% | £582.80 |
February | -5% | £589.00 |
March | -3% | £601.40 |
April | 0% | £620.00 |
May | -1% | £613.80 |
June | +5% | £651.00 |
July | +6% | £657.20 |
August | +9% | £675.80 |
September | +2% | £632.40 |
October | -1% | £613.80 |
November | 0% | £620.00 |
December | -3% | £601.40 |
As you can see, prices on Yoojo remain relatively stable throughout the year.
This stability is due to the large network of hundreds of local movers available on our platform... there’s always someone available to help, no matter the season.
In the end, it’s really the distance of your move that will have the biggest impact on your budget.
To wrap up this guide on prices, what better way than to show you some listings posted on Yoojo?
I’ve obviously focused on clients looking for a mover for around 40 cubic meters, as this is what interests you!
You'll discover:
This will give you a concrete idea of the costs and services you can expect.
💶 Total price paid: £120
📏Volume moved: 42m3
Let’s start with an interesting example where the client is just a couple of miles away.
It's worth noting here that, although the client only paid £120 for a large volume, it’s because they already had the van.
They simply used Yoojo to find help loading and unloading the van.
💶 Total price paid: £490
📏Volume moved: 42m3
Now, let’s go a bit further with a client moving about 62 miles away.
As you can see, distance plays a crucial role in the final price paid by the client!
But we’re still very close to the average prices on Yoojo.
💶 Total price paid: £515
📏Volume moved: 45m3
We’re more than doubling the distance for a move of over 217 miles from the starting point here.
Yet, the price hasn’t risen much. This shows that many factors come into play: where you live, how many movers are ready to help, the time of year, etc.
The best way to know for sure is to ask movers near you.
💶 Total price paid: £805
📏Volume moved: 36m3
Now we’re starting to cover larger distances, with 311 miles to travel for our mover!
This is when the price really starts to go up: tolls, fuel, van rental... the expenses start piling up.
However, our client only paid £805, which is quite good for such a large move.
💶 Total price paid: £895
📏Volume moved: 46m3
Let’s finish our list of examples with this request from a client moving from Portsmouth to Musselburgh.
Here, they combine a large volume with a long distance!
Yet, they still did quite well with a bill of £895.
...And that’s why, at Yoojo, I’ve decided to make requesting quotes completely free.
