You’re probably aware that the cost of moving can fluctuate significantly depending on the options you choose and the distance.

To start this guide, I decided to calculate an average price on Yoojo and from traditional removal companies, using:

Data available online.
Quotes provided by reputable removal companies.
Our own statistics from 45 removals of around 500 miles carried out via our platform.

What kind of moves did I compare?

To ensure consistency in my comparison, I focused on the prices for budget removals.

Simply because this type of service represents the majority of requests on our platform.

To get an accurate estimate of your removal costs, distance is key, as we all know.

So I decided to analyse the statistics based on the volume of the van of the movers for all trips between 475 and 550 miles.

You’re probably aware that traditional removal prices can vary significantly: up to 20% higher in summer and 15% lower in winter.

So, I wanted to calculate the difference for 500-mile moves on our platform… just to see if there was a noticeable difference.

Of course, I focused on clients looking for a removal professional for around 500 miles.

Example 1: A very small move of 538 miles

This client didn’t have much to move, and that’s the beauty of Yoojo.

You can find local movers for all sorts of tasks, even for tiny moves.

And it’s because they had so few items to move that they only paid £590, even though the distance was over 500 miles!

Example 2: A simple move of exactly 500 miles

Alright, this isn’t quite 500 miles, but it’s close enough!

This is a relatively straightforward example, but with around four times the boxes compared to the previous one.

That’s why the cost is slightly higher at £750.

Since movers set their own prices based on your specific needs, you only pay for what you need.

Example 3: A medium-sized move over a long distance

Here we move up a notch with a larger volume of 22m3 to transport.

For a job like this, you’ll need to find a professional with a large enough van (or even two professionals with smaller vans).

It’s little details like this that can really make your removal cost fluctuate.

That’s why I always recommend posting your ad with as many details as possible, including photos.

This allows interested movers to give you the most accurate quote possible for your job.

Example 5: A large move across the country

And I finish with one of the largest moves I found on our platform.

What’s interesting here is that the client needed three professionals: one to help with loading, one at the destination, and a driver with a van to handle the journey.

In the end, she managed to get it done for £1,200 in total… not bad for such a big move!
